Researchers gather at Johannes Kepler University Linz to discuss non-animal tests
Our Director of Science and Regulatory Affairs, Dr Katy Taylor was in Austria last week for the European Society for Alternatives to Animal Testing Conference at the Joannes Kepler University Linz. Katy spoke about our experiences with REACH chemicals legislation over the last 10 years and the efforts we have made to prevent more animal testing from taking place.
The annual conference brought together researchers in non-animal methods from around Europe and the rest of the world, including young researchers at the start of their careers. The aim is to showcase new alternative methods and to discuss the scientific and legal issues of animal testing and the alternatives to it. This year the event was attended by around 300 scientists and regulators from nearly 30 countries and held over four days.
Katy said: “Conferences like these are a fantastic opportunity to support the use of non-animal methods within the scientific community. Animal testing is as scientific unreliable as it is morally indefensible, and it is time to move away from this outdated practice.”
