Earlier this year we welcomed the introduction in the US of the Companion Animal Release from Experiments (CARE) Act H.R. 8001 from Congressman Tony Cárdenas.
The CARE Act has the potential to save hundreds of dogs, cats and rabbits by requiring that taxpayer-funded laboratories allow them to be sent to loving homes rather than killed when no longer used in tests.
We are delighted that our longtime supporters Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory) and Eric McCormack (Will and Grace) have joined our call to #SendSurvivorsHome by supporting the CARE Act.
Mayim Bialik said: “Animals formerly used in laboratories can recover and thrive in loving homes.Shelters and rescue organizations across the US place thousands of dogs, cats, and rabbits into good homes each year and many are eager to do the same for laboratory survivors.“The CARE Act provides an opportunity for the best possible outcome for animals who have been used in laboratories. As Congressman Cárdenas said, we experiment on over 200,000 dogs, cats, and rabbits each year. The least we can do is give these living beings a chance at life in a loving home”.
Eric McCormack tweeted (along with adorable photos of himself with his cat and dog): “I’m proud to join Cruelty Free International in supporting the Companion Animal Release from Experiments [CARE] Act to ensure that dogs, cats, and rabbits are sent to loving homes rather than killed when no longer wanted for experiments. Let’s #SendSurvivorsHome
We can’t thank Eric and Mayim enough for helping us get the word out about this important bill and draw attention to the plight of animals used in laboratories.
You can help by asking your US Representative to become a cosponsor of the CARE Act and by promoting the bill on social media using the hashtag #SendSurvivorsHome. You can also show your support with our campaign T-shirts and hoodies.
