Rabbit’s rescued from laboratories

Charlie and Mac's story

Charlie and Mac are two rabbits released from a laboratory and now in the care of Friends of Unwanted Rabbits. It is unknown how Charlie and Mac were used in the laboratory, but as the metal ear tags the pierce their ears suggest, they were likely regarded as numbers not individuals.  Charlie and Mac were both extremely shy and warry of humans when they first arrived at FUR but are now in a loving foster home where they are learning to be rabbits and to trust people.

Orca's story

“Orca” is a rabbit recently released for rescue from a laboratory in California. As her name suggests, “Orca” was extremely overweight when she first arrived in the care of Friends of Unwanted Rabbits (FUR). While it is unknown exactly what Orca went through in the laboratory, she had trouble moving due to her weight and she also was unable to chew or eat on her own. It is speculated that she was tube fed or fed via IV leading to her obesity, lack of jaw muscles and upset digestive system. In the care of a FUR she has now lost weight, is eating on her own and is able to hop around and explore her new foster home.
