What the parties say about animals in laboratories
On 12th December 2019 the UK electorate will decide which party or parties will be able to form a new government.
Cruelty Free International is politically neutral, but we thought supporters would like to know what the major parties say they will do for animals in laboratories. So, we’ve produced this guide.
Where a party does not mention animal testing in its 2019 general election manifesto, we haven’t included it, nor have we included any statements other than official manifestos in the guide. Some parties are yet to release their manifestos, and we'll update the guide when they do.
Whoever makes up the new UK government, rest assured that we’ll continue to be the voice for animals who continue to suffer in laboratories in the UK. It’s something the UK public cares deeply about: the Ipsos MORI survey on Public attitudes to animal research in 2018 showed, for example, that 87% oppose the use of cats, dogs and monkeys in experiments, yet Home Office statistics show that 7,847 experiments took place in the UK in 2018 involving those animals.
It’s time for decision-makers to listen.
