Don Beyer receives our Legislator of the Month award for August 2018

Each month, we nominate a lawmaker as the Legislator/Parliamentarian of the Month, to celebrate the work these individuals do for animals. This month’s Representative Don Beyer (D-VA) receives his award for his leadership on the US Humane Cosmetics Act [HR 2790].

Rep Beyer alongside Arizona Representative Martha McSally [our June legislator of the month!] have been leading the legislation which would end animal testing for cosmetics in the US after one year and phase out the sale of animal tested cosmetics in the US after three years.

We were delighted to present Rep Beyer with this award in Washington DC. We are always thrilled to honour politicians and lawmakers who take a stand for animals and join us in working to end the use of animals in cruel and outdated tests.

The Humane Cosmetics Act will bring US cosmetics policy in line with more than 30 countries that have already implemented bans on animal testing and the sale of animal-tested cosmetics—including the European Union, Israel, Norway, Switzerland, and India.

Cruelty Free International has been working to build support for the Humane Cosmetics Act which now has 175 cosponsors and has garnered support from over 150 cosmetics companies as well as backing from our celebrity supporters including Peter Dinklage, Mayim Bialik and Kunal Nayyar. If you’re a US resident you can help by asking your US Representatives to cosponsor the bill.
