We’re urging airline to bring back transport embargo on monkeys
We are shocked that Vietnam Airlines has broken its promise to stop flying monkeys to laboratories. In May 2013 Vietnam Airlines publicly said it would ban the transport of monkeys for research. This followed a Cruelty Free International investigation that exposed the airline’s role in flying monkeys to laboratories around the world, including to the UK and Japan.
But we have learned that in 2016 Vietnam Airlines transported at least four shipments of monkeys to Russia for use in cruel experiments. Vietnam Airlines joins Air France and ABX Air on our list of airlines that fly monkeys destined for the cruel research industry.
Michelle Thew, CEO of Cruelty Free International, said: “It is extremely disappointing that Vietnam Airlines has breached its own embargo and once again become involved in the cruel trade in monkeys for research; a trade that inflicts great cruelty on many thousands of animals ever year.”
