Frequently Asked Questions by Brands

Why choose to become a Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny brand?

Beauty companies around the world are saying that now is the time for us to work together to end the use of animal testing for cosmetics once and for all. We could not agree more.

And it’s not only the companies. The groundswell of consumer opinion around the world is clear – people want to consume ethically so that through their purchasing decisions they can shape a world they can believe in. Choosing cruelty free is central to this.

The business opportunity for your company to achieve Leaping Bunny cruelty free approval is already well-established. Consumers of all generations consistently place ‘cruelty free’ high on their list of claims and with a Leaping Bunny approval comes a lift in penetration, sales and your company’s ethical profile.

Leaping Bunny standards are the clearest and most unambiguous commitment a company can make in this area. The Leaping Bunny is an internationally recognisable licence for cruelty free cosmetics, personal care and household products. Our companies are able to say that their entire supply chains have been checked to meet the thorough criteria and underscore this with regular independent audits. Being a Leaping Bunny brand will give the best assurance to your customers and that will show genuine commitment, credibility and clarity.

Our highly experienced team is on hand for our companies and able to offer support for legal, regulatory, technical and scientific animal testing questions.

Will the Leaping Bunny core criteria work with my business model?

Yes, Leaping Bunny can be integrated with any business model. Leaping Bunny core criteria are practical, comprehensive and measurable.

What makes Leaping Bunny different?

Companies must adhere to strict Leaping Bunny criteria both in order to obtain Leaping Bunny approval and to remain approved.

Most other non-animal testing schemes use a list system based on a simple declaration from the company that its products are not tested on animals. Such declarations rarely account for both the final products and their raw materials and their ingredients, and are often not verified in any way. In addition, these schemes often do not require suppliers to commit in a measurable way to no future animal testing of the ingredients that the company uses.

The Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny is the only global programme which checks for brands conducting, commissioning or being-party to animal testing. The criteria go beyond legal requirements and it is the only global programme which continuously monitors that the high standard required at application continues to be implemented for the time that brand remains Leaping Bunny approved.

I am applying for a logo to demonstrate that my products are vegan/vegetarian/organic, and they have asked me questions about animal testing. Will the same information help me to qualify for Leaping Bunny approval?

Whilst these programmes may ask animal testing questions as a secondary consideration, the same information would not automatically qualify your company for Leaping Bunny approval. As animal testing is our only consideration, our processes and questions are much more specific and comprehensive to ensure any incidence of animal testing that takes place at any stage of product development is captured.

Is there a fee?

As we are a non-profit organisation, there is a fee that is dependent on gross sales of the products being approved. This fee does not represent a profit for us, but instead contributes a towards administration fees, the cost of licensing the Leaping Bunny logo and the cost of auditing Leaping Bunny companies.

How can I get the Leaping Bunny logo?

When can I use the Leaping Bunny logo?

A company is eligible to use the Leaping Bunny logo once it has become fully approved and licensed to do so.  Toward the end of the application approval process this will all be explained to you.

Is my business eligible to use the Leaping Bunny logo if I purchase my own-branded products from a Leaping Bunny company as my manufacturer?

No, you would need to apply for your company/brand in order to obtain your own approval and use the logo. The Leaping Bunny is a registered trademark and only approved companies are licensed to use the Leaping Bunny logo.

Leaping Bunny approval is non-transferable, and whilst a company may manufacturer white label products for others, it is only the applicant's own-branded products that will be approved. This is because one of the core criteria of Leaping Bunny approval is managing supply chains to ensure all stages are cruelty free. A non-approved company has not agreed to independent audit, cannot demonstrate that all its products are produced in line with our criteria regardless of the supplier and would be free to change suppliers at any time.

Which cosmetics products are included?

What counts as an own-label product?

An own-brand or own-label product is a product manufactured specifically for that company and bears one of that company's trading brand/label names. When applying for Leaping Bunny approval, a company must include all its relevant own-label products as we do not approve individual lines or specific items. Companies must also ensure that any future products meet the Leaping Bunny criteria.
