Senator Clarence Lam receives recognition for making Maryland a cruelty free cosmetics zone
Each month, we nominate a lawmaker as Legislator of the Month to celebrate the work these individuals do for animals. This month, our award goes to State Senator Clarence Lam MD for his work to end animal testing for cosmetics in Maryland, USA.
We have been supporting the Maryland cruelty free cosmetics bill since it was first introduced in 2019 by Senator Lam. His hard work has paid off as Maryland will soon join California, Nevada, Illinois and Virginia in ending the sale of newly animal-tested cosmetics.
Our Head of Public Affairs in North America, Monica Engebretson, said: “States often serve as a testing ground for new ideas that are later adopted nationwide, and this certainly seems to be holding true for this issue. Passage of the Maryland bill now creates even more momentum for federal action to end animal testing for cosmetics in the US.
“We thank Senator Lam for his initiative and persistence in seeing this bill through all the twists and turns over the past three years”.
