Adoption of New York act would have international significance
Cruelty Free International is proud to support the New York Cruelty Free Cosmetics Act to end the sale of new animal tested cosmetics in the state. The bill is sponsored by Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal (D/WF-Manhattan) in the Assembly and Senator Alessandra Biaggi in the Senate.
Cruelty Free International has been working behind the scenes to support this bill since 2015 - making New York the very first state to have introduced legislation of this kind. The work there continues this year, catching the wave of renewed energy following recent state successes in Virginia, Maryland, and Hawaii.

The New York Cruelty Free Cosmetics Act will prohibit the sale of any cosmetic product that has been tested on animals after January 1, 2022, thus bringing New York in line with nearly 40 countries and a growing number of US states that now prohibit the sale of new animal-tested cosmetics. Moreover, it would create tremendous momentum for the adoption of a US-wide law.
New York has long been a leader in promoting modern non-animal methods. In 2008, a bill also sponsored by Assemblymember Rosenthal made it unlawful to conduct cosmetic animal testing in the state if a non-animal method is available.
