Edinburgh MEP tells the United Nations to ban it for the bunnies
David Martin, the European Parliament’s longest serving UK MEP, has pledged his support to the Cruelty Free International campaign calling on a UN resolution against cosmetics testing on animals. Before going into politics Martin worked as an animal rights campaigner. The MEP is now a spokesperson on international trade for the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament and an Honorary Secretary for the European Parliament Intergroup on Animal Welfare.
Martin said: “I was a member of the European Parliament when the very first proposal to end cosmetics animal testing was tabled, and I backed it all the way. Yet despite the success of the ban, most countries around the world would still allow cruel cosmetics testing to take place. That’s why I’m supporting Cruelty Free International - it’s time to make the EU ban global and end this cruel practice everywhere and forever.”
