We want to see UK roadmap away from cruel and unreliable animal tests
We support calls from the Alliance for Human Relevant Science for a fresh approach to biomedical research and drug development following the release of its paper “Accelerating the Growth of Human Relevant Life Sciences in the United Kingdom”.
The paper urges the UK Government to assist businesses in moving to new approaches to medical research that are more human relevant, have the potential to improve the efficiency of drug development and help deliver safer, cheaper and more effective medicines to patients.
With the new Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, delivering his first budget for the Government tomorrow we intensify our call for a proper joined-up and well-funded UK roadmap for ending cruel and unreliable animal experiments.
Kerry Postlewhite, our Director of Public Affairs says: “This is an excellent report. We agree with the Alliance that there is a fantastic opportunity for the UK to become a world leader in developing new approaches to drug research by increasing investment in human relevant non-animal methods which are good for both business and public health.
“With its new budget , the Government has a real opportunity to step up and map out a properly funded plan to move us away from the inhumane and unreliable use of animals in UK laboratories”.
The Alliance is a collaboration of biotech companies, charities and academics supporting the use of human models for human disease and drug development.
