Last week, we teamed up with XCellR8 , a laboratory exclusively devoted to animal-free safety testing, to run a webinar for companies, researchers and decision-makers looking at how modern animal-free testing methods can now meet the demand for safe and cruelty free cosmetics around the world.
We’re making the most of the different ways of working springing up because of global travel and meeting restrictions to reach new audiences with the cruelty free message, with people joining the webinar from the US, Canada, the UK, Italy, France, China, Japan, South Korea and South Africa.
Over the past 30 years, public pressure to end the testing of cosmetics on animals has been growing, and cosmetic animal testing is now restricted in more and more countries. Largely driven by these regulatory changes, research into technologies that replace animal testing has yielded practical and reliable non-animal testing methods to ensure cosmetic safety.
Dr Carol Treasure, co-founder & CEO of XCellR8, explained how these tests are not only more ethical but also more reliable than the animal tests they replace. Dr Treasure said: “Only a few decades ago, all cosmetics testing was done in vivo on animals. Look how far we’ve come.”
Monica Engebretson, our Head of Public Affairs for North America, who also provided an overview of testing regulations around the world and how and the US Humane Cosmetics Act would harmonize state and international laws on this issue, said, “With global momentum, state precedent, and support from the public as well as industry, we are closer than ever to achieving a cruelty free USA and finally ending animal testing for cosmetics globally.”
If you live in the United States, you can help keep the momentum going by asking your US Representative to become a cosponsor of the Humane Cosmetics Act. Take action here.
