Breakthrough in Japan thanks to your support
You’ll be delighted to hear there’s been a big breakthrough for dogs languishing in cages in Japanese veterinary medical schools thanks to your support.
You may recall in January we told you about our investigation in Japan that revealed dogs being deliberately harmed and killed so that vet students could practise their clinical and surgical skills.
We asked you to take action and email Japanese decision-makers to ask them to end the harming and killing of dogs in student training. And thousands of you did!
Thanks to your support, the Japanese Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education has agreed to set up a committee to review how to reduce the number of animals used. They are also investigating the many cutting-edge humane alternative methods that can be used instead.
They’re due to meet in September to discuss how they can do things differently for dogs. We’re working with our friends at the Japanese Anti-Vivisection Association to do all we can to keep the pressure on, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
